ALBE

SYNOPSIS

Seven people from in and near Rome share their passion for and their experiences of contactism, ufology and cosmic spirituality. They are perfectly ordinary people who no one would suspect of being “freaks”, but they see themselves as researchers who are the privileged pioneers of a new awareness that they are convinced will come from the skies. They have all witnessed or been involved in extraordinary events that have changed their lives, but everyone else – often even their friends and family members – finds these things almost impossible to believe in.

They therefore decided to set up the group “A.L.B.E.” (A Life Beyond Earth) so that they could share their dreams, thoughts and experiences – also on WhatsApp – with other like-minded people, who do not consider them as weird or crazy. They participate in extra-terrestrial exorcisms and séances that bring them into contact with astral beings. They hunt for Orbs – luminous spheres sent down to our planet by a mother ship – and they conduct “sky-watching” sessions, hoping for signals from one of our many cosmic brothers, which are only visible to those who open their hearts to them. In all of these activities, their mobile phones are always an indispensable means of communication: a technological instrument of global control, but also a means for recording UFOs and beings from other dimensions. Aliens are pop creatures; the heroes of contemporary mythology, as well as mysterious mirrors in which we can see the essence of our own nature reflected.

The director of this documentary investigates these themes by interviewing religious believers, scientists, astronauts and Carlo, a man who is convinced that he is an “extra-terrestrial human” and a genuine Martian in the city of Rome. ALBE is film with a choral structure that investigates the question “are we all alone in the universe?” It examines doubt, the search for certainty, illusions and interstellar tensions. The events, names and experiences of the protagonists are all absolutely authentic. The result is a sort of mise en-scene of reality itself.
