SYNOPSIS

1944, the Alps in Piedmont, northern Italy. Four teenagers hope that the war will end soon and they will be able to hug their parents and older brothers again. When they realise that, due to their young age, they do not raise suspicion and are not searched at enemy checkpoints, they decide to secretly help the partisans to liberate Italy from the occupying German forces. Marta, Davide, Sara and Marco take on the identity of “Sandokan”, a mysterious rebel who operates against the Nazi-Fascists with their bases down in the valleys. The four children climb steep mountains and undertake breath-taking descents, and by facing enormous dangers and great tests of courage they make their own contribution to the victory of the freedom fighters in the resistance movements. This is a great adventure story dealing with themes of coming-of-age, love and friendship, told from the point of view of the thirteen-year-old Marta.
